Welcoming Etain Neary – Design Lead
The team at Charles Edward would like to welcome Etain Neary, who is joining us as Design Lead.
We caught up with Etain to ask her a few questions about her role and provide insight into some of the burning questions around design within the construction industry.
There is a lot of construction happening across London right now – what’s your favourite project, from a design perspective?
There’s a lot of great stuff going on, but Whitechapel Crossrail Station is definitely a highlight for me. It’s a great example of how design, construction, technology and engineering come together in an innovative way that stylishly combats land scarcity in central London.
It’s the World Cup this year – what’s your favourite sports stadium design?
My favourite stadium architecturally is Braga Stadium outside Porto. But, my favourite stadium to frequent has got to be Aviva Stadium in Dublin!
What’s your short-term plans for your department?
The short-term plan involves creating a strategy for the department which maximises the value of Design Managers during pre-construction. It is crucial to manage how we best use the resource to add value and build quality into our processes which best benefits our clients. I aim to achieve this by building our design processes around the lean and logical delivery ethos we have here at Charles Edward.
And how do you think it will look in 5 years’ time?
I expect the department to expand in line with the business plan, for me this means recruiting a spectrum of Design Managers with varying skill sets to compliment services for our clients in all of our delivery markets. This could include hiring design managers who specialise in MEP, AV & IT, Resi fit-out, structural alteration and restoration – growing our sector to a five-strong design team in the next 18 months. Looking forward 5 years, the design department will have a strong team of ambitious people who greatly add to the businesses success and who’s service and expertise is repeatedly requested by our clients!
You could have gone anywhere, so why did you decide to join Charles Edward?
I was keen to join a construction company that is hands-on in a wide range of sectors and have a contemporary outlook on innovation and delivery techniques. Charles Edward are at the forefront of London’s evolving construction market and streamline their practices to ensure the right people are utilised, at the right time, to fulfil the right purpose on each and every project. Over and above the strategic plan for the business and the exciting project pipeline, I’m looking forward to working with a group of creative, honest and passionate people to deliver some exceptional projects for great clients!
