Charles Edward form a winning partnership with the Varsity Lions
Charles Edward has joined forces with the The North School Lion’s Varsity basketball team as their new primary sponsor. The Varsity Lions carried the Charles Edward logo across their chest as they ended the season in remarkable fashion with a stunning victory at the 7500 seat Copper Box Arena in the London Basketball Association’s end of season Men’s Colleges Tournament.
Lions Head Coach, Andrew Sunderland commented ‘It’s just a phenomenal way to end the season. Competing in an Olympic venue is inspiring for the players and coaches’ alike-it was only last year that we were at the Copper Box Arena watching the GB men’s team as spectators! The players deserve all the credit in the world-they have withstood an enormously challenging year but their togetherness and sense of family have been unwavering. To save the best for last with a breath-taking performance on the biggest stage of all is fitting for this team. To end the year as champions means everything’
Speaking about the recent partnership with Charles Edward, Andrew commented ‘The North School Lions are more than a just basketball program, we are a family and we are delighted to partner with Charles Edward. Having such a passionate and supportive sponsor who recognises the importance of our aspirations is hugely significant and their support will be instrumental in helping us to reach our goals’.
The Varsity Lions team is in place to provide The North School’s dedicated student-athletes with a platform from which they can realistically aspire to win a University scholarship. Sunderland commented ‘The dream of playing professional sports is an important one; however we look to instill in our student-athletes the ability to see the bigger picture. The percentage of athletes who make it to the highest echelons of their chosen sport is very small and those who do are faced with the reality that playing careers are short. To that end, we stress the importance of matching sporting excellence with academic excellence’.
To complement the Varsity program, the Lions have a complete player development structure in place which is made up of a Junior Varsity team, a Junior Lions program and an external community project. The Junior Varsity team provides daily coaching to young student-athletes who have been identified as having the discipline and potential to represent the Varsity in the future. Meanwhile, the Junior Lions program introduces competitive basketball to young students in school years 7 and 8 for the first time and the Lion’s community program aims to inspire the next generation of athletes by providing free coaching for primary school children in and around the Ashford area.
Dale Hardwick, Owner of Charles Edward commented ‘We are proud to be the new sponsor of The North School Lions and to support them in meeting their inspirational goals. With continued support from family, friends and the wider community, I am sure that they will continue to go from strength to strength. Come on you Lions!’
