Welcoming Bob Cockcroft – Technical Services Manager
We are pleased to welcome Bob Cockcroft to the team, who has joined us as a Technical Services Manager.
Bob – welcome aboard the good ship CE! To kick off, what are your thoughts on how the services industry has changed in the last 20 years?
Apart from everybody seeming to be younger than me, I can’t say I’ve really noticed. Certainly the construction industry as a whole has become a lot more safety focused. There’s probably more design and build than there used to be and of course there’s a lot more network based technologies being installed and integrated.
What type of services challenges have the potential to keep you awake at night?
There’s no particular discipline or activity but each project has it’s own unique challenges. Staying ahead of the game and trying to be right is always a challenge and that might get the cogs whirring from time to time.
What makes a good services subcontractor?
That’d be attitude and the basic ability to perform the function they’re employed to do. We don’t have the time or the desire to micro-manage and a good ability to communicate and drive the job forward are key attributes. With these in place, effective working relationships can be forged.
Many smaller projects vs one larger project; which do you prefer and why?
I’m used to doing numerous jobs concurrently and working on one large project could be considered something of a luxury in comparison! However, every job carries its own challenges and that isn’t necessarily size-related.
And a few quick fire questions…
If a movie was made of your life, which genre would it be and who would play you?
A black comedy I think and I’d have Gary Oldman as me.
Are you a morning lark or a night owl?
You’re stuck on a desert island, which two albums would you want with you?
This is a tough one but I’ll go for Tom Waits ‘The Asylum Years’ and Chas and Dave’s greatest hits.
Great choices, we had pegged you as a Spice Girls fan but clearly not! Thanks for your time Bob, all the best in the new role.
